Orthodox calendar for February

After the adoption of the new style, all Orthodox holidays of 2025 are celebrated in accordance with the New Julian calendar.

The difference with the previous dates is 13 days. Non-movable holidays will coincide in date with Catholic holidays, and movable ones are calculated according to the old method, which was adopted before the transition to the current rules. The main holiday of February 2025 is the Meeting of the Lord.

On February 2, believers will celebrate the meeting of the Old and New Testaments. It was on this day that the Mother of God brought her newborn firstborn to the temple of Jerusalem to dedicate him to God. An interesting tradition is the consecration of candles in churches. According to beliefs, they are a talisman against thunderstorms.

On February 5, believers honor the memory of the holy great martyr Agathia, and on February 24 they celebrate the first and second Finding of the head of John the Baptist.

The second month of winter is not rich in church holidays. It is worth noting that on February 23 the meat-fare week begins, because at the beginning of March the time for Lent will come.
